So, if you’ve been avoiding going to the dentist, despite having significant dental issues, then please read the questions and answers we have provided below to find out more about how we can help.
What types of dental crowns do you offer in office? There are a number of types of materials that are utilized when making dental crowns. Each type has it’s own benefits, and Dr. Patel will determine which is best for you. Metal,
porcelain that is fused to metal, all resin, all porcelain and all ceramic are the types of dental crowns which the dentist will choose from. While metal dental crowns usually are the most durable and last the longest, all ceramic or all porcelain crowns are a good alternative for those who suffer from metal allergies.
How many office visits does the placement of dental crowns require? You will typically only need to come into the office twice to complete this process. During the first visit the dentist will determine the extent of damage that has
been done to the tooth and will prepare the tooth for the dental crown. An impression of your tooth will then be taken, which will be sent off to the lab where the permanent crown will be made. In the meantime, a temporary crown will be put into place. When the permanent crown is finished, you will return the office once more, at which time it will be cemented into place.
What are some of the benefits of dental crowns? A tooth that has been weakened from decay or one that has cracked can be quite painful, not to mention that both of these issues jeopardize the structure of the tooth itself and can lead to a myriad of other dental problems. Dental crowns serve to support the tooth, so that it eliminates the pain and discomfort that you may be experiencing, and prevents any further damage to the tooth’s structure. Dental crowns can also support dental implants and hold dental bridges more firmly in place, and can cover discolored teeth, as well as those that are misshapen.
